Moment with the Mayor for February 2, 2019

C.H.I.P. Program

Applications for owner-occupied home rehabilitation are currently being accepted through Wednesday, February 6, 2019 through the C.H.I.P (Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program).  Application packets are available at Wadsworth City Hall in the Building and Planning Department or the Medina County Administration Building, 120 West Washington Street #3B, Medina, OH.    However, completed applications may not be dropped off at City Hall.  Once an application has been completed and all required supporting documentation complied, applicants will need to contact Malinda Freeman at Ohio Regional Development Corp., (330-410-6581) to schedule an appointment to have the application and supporting documents reviewed and verified.  The application, list of required supporting documents and filing instructions are included in the application packet.  Programs funded through the CDBG CHIP and Allocation programs are not "home beautification" programs. The projects that are generally eligible for financial assistance include roof repairs; furnaces; hot water tanks; structural deficiencies (porches, stairs, etc.); electrical panels and plumbing and similar building code violations and threats to safety. Cosmetic improvements (i.e. new cabinets, carpeting, etc.) are generally not eligible for assistance. Each application will be reviewed to ensure that the repairs being requested meet program goals. Rental properties are not eligible for this program. Please note that all home repairs and improvements funded through these grants are income-based, and designed to improve housing conditions for low- and moderate-income homeowners. If your household income exceeds the amounts shown on the table for Medina County, you do not qualify for any housing grant assistance.
