College Street Culvert

Recently, heavy rains caused the ground at the edge of the roadway to break loose and slope failure in the area of Holmesbrook Creek; resulting in damage to the culvert under the roadway. Our engineering staff discovered the issue and quickly began emergency repair work in order to stabilize the area.

Only one lane will be open, but by alternating the traffic in each direction with temporary signals, two-way traffic has been re-established. This one-lane alternating traffic fix will remain in place for the foreseeable future. We are currently working to expedite the process for a permanent culvert replacement. When work begins to replace the culvert, another full closure is expected.

UPDATE 7/22/18: Dominion Gas is scheduled to move two gas lines this week. One line is on the north side of the road and the other is on the south side. The City’s contractor that will replace the waterline, will also begin work this week. Expect intermittent delays and the parking lot to Holmesbrook Park will be closed. This work is expected to be competed in 2 weeks.

After both the gas and water lines are completed, the City’s contractor will begin a full replacement of the culvert in August. During the full replacement, a complete road closure will be necessary and detours will be posted.

Street Improvement Program

The ashpalt resurfacing contractor will begin on Monday July 23rd by milling (or grinding) the old asphalt and hauling it away. Please be aware of dips in the roadway and raised manholes and water valves. Traffic will be maintained in each direction with one lane closures as they work.

Streets Include:
• Highland Avenue from Farr Avenue to Good Street
• Woodland Avenue from Farr Avenue to Good Street
• W. North Street from High Street to Lake Street
• Broad Street from Lyman to the eastern city limit, past Blue Sky Drive-In
• Wadsworth Road from College Street to Carol Way

The milling will be completed this week. Next, pavement repairs will be made, then paving will begin. The entire process will take a few weeks.
