Moment with the Mayor for January 19, 2019

2018 Accomplishments

During January and February, I like to share the City’s accomplishments for the previous year and the goals that have been set for the present year.  I will begin with the Finance department’s accomplishments.  For the third year, they have received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction, based on filing a CAFR

(Comprehensive Annual Financial Report), timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and a clean audit report with no weaknesses, citations, or significant deficiencies.  This is not an easy accomplishment.  In fact, only 5% of the municipalities achieve this honor.   They also received the Government Finance Officers Associations’ Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 2017 for the tenth year I a row.  And in 2018, they implemented a purchase card program for the City that has begun to decrease costs and increase efficiency in the payment processes and vendor maintenance costs.  To be continued next week…..

Marian's Closet

We are so fortunate to have so many organizations in the community that care for those in need.  One such organization is Marian’s Closet. According to the Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce, Marian’s Closet has had a year of upward momentum in 2018, serving over 15,000 individuals from approximately 5000 families from in and around the Wadsworth community. Those numbers reflect a 22% increase from the previous year. From their small store, they distributed over 135,000 items - a direct result of generous donors, for which they are very thankful.  And volunteers logged over 7500 hours that were essential in fulfilling their mission.  The organization kicked off their first annual campaign, Friends of the Closet, to increase awareness of their services by utilizing several media outlets - Wadsworth Community Radio, The Summit 91.3, The Trading Post, and The Akron Beacon Journal.  If you would like to volunteer or donate in any way, please contact them at 330.336.3642, by mail at P.O. Box 841 Wadsworth, OH 44282, or in person at 154 East Street, Wadsworth.

Until next week…….
Mayor Robin Laubaugh
