National Fire Prevention Week
National Fire Prevention Week will be observed during the week of October 7-13, 2018. This year’s theme serves as a reminder to “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere”. According to the National Fire Protection Association, while there has been significant progress made in teaching people how to prevent fires, more education is needed to teach them how to protect themselves if a fire does occur. Because today’s home building materials burn faster, in a typical fire, homeowners may only have a minute or two to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm alerts them. It takes planning and practice to help ensure a safe exit from a burning structure. In addition, the City’s dedicated first responders in the fire, EMS and police departments continually attend training to keep up to date with the latest information and equipment to aid in emergency situations. Please take some time to review your emergency plans with your family members. Valuable information can be found at the National Fire Protection Association’s website at www.nfpa.org.
Until next week……..
Mayor Robin Laubaugh
