Moment with the Mayor for May 19, 2018
Memorial Day Parade
The Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m. As always, the parade will begin downtown in front of the American Legion and continue through town to Woodlawn Cemetery, where a memorial ceremony will take place. The American Legion is encouraging all veterans and their families to join the parade as it passes by.

Rotary Flag Program
The Wadsworth Rotary Club is once again promoting patriotic pride by offering an opportunity for Wadsworth residents in the Wadsworth School District to lease flags for $40 per year. For an additional $10, you may order a plaque to honor a Veteran. A Rotary member will place a 3’x 5’ flag in your front yard on a pole before holiday weekends and will remove it afterward. Holidays included are Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day and Veteran’s Day. The Rotary will permanently install a short PVC pipe, flush with the ground for easy placement of the flag pole and will also cap the pipe when not in use. The flag and pole will remain the property of the Rotary Club of Wadsworth. All proceeds will support the Rotary Club of Wadsworth’s local and international projects. More than 200 flags have already been placed, but the club is hoping that more people will take advantage of this great opportunity. For more information and to print off a Parade of Flags application, please go to their website at http://www.wadsworthrotary.org.

Matchstick Race
The Wadsworth Matchstick race organizers are busy registering participants and preparing for the race on Friday, June 22, 2018. In case you are not familiar, this event is part of Blue Tip Festival Week and offers individuals the opportunity for 5K, 10K and half marathon courses. Over the past 3 years, the Matchstick Race has donated over $20,000 back to the community via Blue Tip Festival, Main Street Wadsworth, Wadsworth YMCA and the Salvation Army. Race organizers are proud of the community coming together and participating, but still need additional volunteers to help coordinate the races. Nearly 800 runners and their families are expected to be a part of this year’s festivities. What a great opportunity to be involved in a fun event that benefits many! If you are interested, please go to the website at matchstickrace.com and click on the Volunteers tab at the top of the page.

June First Friday
Live jazz music, craft making opportunities, and wine and cheese are in store for those that attend June’s First Friday event on June 1st, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.in the downtown area. The Wadsworth Footlighters, Girls Scouts and NEO Dance members will also be contributing to the festivities. The Main Street organization is working hard to make the First Friday events enjoyable for all ages. Let’s celebrate summer together on June 1st!

Until next week…….
