Moment with the Mayor for May 5, 2018
Key to the City
The Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce Rosie Awards for 2018 recently recognized and honored individuals, businesses and organization in eight categories for their contributions to the Wadsworth community.
This year’s Key to the City awardee was Stan Wolcyzk, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday. There is much to celebrate in Stan’s life, including his marriage, two children, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a decorated WWII Army veteran he served our country well and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. He was recently inducted into the Nation WWII Museum in New Orleans, where there is a recording of his combat experience on Attu in the Aleutian Islands. Stan was a teacher and later, a principal. Ten years of his teaching career was spent in Germany teaching children whose parents were in the army. Later in his teaching career, he received the American Educators Medal. Known for his theatrical flair, he happily visited many schools and civic groups dressed as famous historical characters. He continued his life of service after retirement by volunteering at Akron Children’s Hospital, accumulating more than 2500 hours, and by delivering Meals on Wheels. Presently, he is an active member and volunteer at the Soprema Senior Center, where he enjoys participating in the theater group and welcoming newcomers to the Center. “Stan the Man” is an apt nickname for this fun-loving man, who lives each day to the fullest. He is the perfect recipient of the 2018 Key to the City. Congratulations Stan, and all of the outstanding winners of the Rosie Awards!

Annual Library Bookin’ 5k Race
The Wadsworth Library Bookin’ 5k and 1 mile fun run will be held in conjunction with the Craft and Herb Festival this year on May 19 at 9:00 a.m. This 8th annual race, in memory of Dave Hopkins, will begin and end at the library. Those interested in the race may register at http://www.wadsworthlibrary.com/foundation or register between 8:00 and 8:45 a.m. on race day. Shred Event
Just a quick reminder that the community shredding event will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 9:00 – noon, in the parking lot across from City Hall, behind the Huntington Bank. Those participating will be asked to drive up and unload material from their cars into bins, with assistance from the attendant on duty, if needed.

Until next week……
