Councilwoman At Large Patty Haskins was elected to City Council in 2012. Prior to her election, she fulfilled a Council vacancy appointment in 2009. Ms. Haskins currently serves on the Public Ways Committee, as well as the Senior Citizens’ and Shade Tree Commissions. She has been a member, at various times, of every Council standing committee, including Economic Development and Planning, Public Safety (which she chaired) Public Service, and Public Ways.
An educator, Ms. Haskins spent 34 of her 36-year career in Wadsworth City Schools, teaching mathematics to mostly 11th and 12th graders. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron, with post graduate work at the U of A and Kent State University, and was certified to teach history and government, as well as math. Previous civic activity included a 15-year stint as President of the Wadsworth Education Association. She spent 18 years negotiating teacher contracts with the school district. Ms. Haskins ran the Wadsworth High School Blood Mobile for 25 years and she directed school plays – too numerous to mention – for 20 years. Ms. Haskins retired from her teaching career in 2007.
Ms. Haskins continues her community work as the President of the Wadsworth Women’s Club and Treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society of Sacred Heart Parish. She serves her parish also as a lector and communion minister for local nursing homes. She is a Kiwanis member; a volunteer for the Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Auxiliary; and a regular panel member for WCTV’s Right and Left discussion group.
Among Ms. Haskins most valued, volunteer roles was that of Executive Committee Member for the 2014 Wadsworth Bicentennial. She oversaw the volunteers and also served on the events committee.
The Councilwoman has resided in Wadsworth since 1973. She is mother to a son and a daughter and has two grandchildren – Liam and Declan.
