New Police Chief Accepts Appointment

Wadsworth, Ohio.

Sgt. Randall M. Reinke, 49, a seventeen (17) year veteran of the Wadsworth Police Department, has accepted the appointment as the new Chief of Police for the City of Wadsworth.

A swearing in ceremony will be held in council chambers at Wadsworth City Hall on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.  “There were a number of very qualified candidates for this position and we are fortunate to have Randy as our final selection,” said City Director of Public Safety Matt Hiscock.  “He has a wealth of law enforcement experience, from serving as a patrol officer, SWAT member and Sergeant, to supervisory duties within the Detective Bureau.  He knows firsthand the crime trends within our community and what the department needs to continue to effectively deliver the superior law enforcement services that our residents deserve,” added Hiscock.

The new police chief began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer with the City of Wadsworth Police Department in 1992. He was named “Officer of the Year” in 1994 and 1996 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2000. In 2008 he graduated from the Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.  Reinke holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Kent State University.  He also served in the U.S. Army from 1985 through 1992 and served in the Gulf War in 1991.

“With his strong organizational knowledge, law enforcement and life experiences, his belief in open communication and his vision for further developing our outstanding department, Randy Reinke will undoubtedly continue Wadsworth’s highest standard of public safety and I look forward to working with him,” Hiscock said.

His appointment as Wadsworth’s sixth (6) police chief will be effective February 3, 2010.  He and his wife, Katie, a registered nurse at Akron City Hospital, have two (2) sons.
