Volunteer Firefighter Job Summary: Under the immediate supervision of the Fire Chief or his designee, this position is responsible for performing all necessary tasks of firefighting and rescue.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responds to alarms by driving fire apparatus;
- Operates pumps and lays fire lines;
- Cuts through structures, handles hose lines,
climbs ladders;
- Enters structures, carries persons from fires or
smoke filled buildings;
- Cleans up property and equipment after fires;
- Inspects, checks, cleans and maintains fire
apparatus and equipment;
- Maintains and cleans fire stations, maintains
building grounds;
- Occasionally serves as acting Lieutenant;
- Studies and attends
training sessions;
- Answers questions and conducts tours of the
stations;
- Provides first aid and/or emergency medical
treatment (minimum at First responder Level)
- Performs other duties requiring similar skills;
- All other duties required by the department.
- Must
possess a valid State of Ohio Vehicle Operator's License and be insurable, as deemed by the
City, on our motor vehicle liability insurance policy.
Emergency Medical Technician Job Summary: Under the immediate supervision of the Fire Chief or his designee, this position is responsible for performing all tasks associated with rescue and patient care.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Assists others
to be sure the victim receives the best possible care and calls for additional
assistance if needed.

Assists
other members in making sure run report is complete and accurate.

Assists
others to be sure the vehicle is cleaned and equipment replaced upon completion
of the call.

Calls
attention to the Fire / EMS Chief any problems with the call through a written
report.

Upon
arrival at the scene, carries the cot and equipment to the location of the victim.

Participates
in patient care to their specific level of training and protocols established
by Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital

Follows
directives given by the Paramedic in charge.

Completes
the linens / equipment form at the hospital.

Drives the
ambulance safely to the scene, to the hospital of choice, and back to the
station using the quickest,
smoothest, safest route possible.

All other duties required by the department.

Must
possess a valid State of Ohio Vehicle Operator's License and be insurable, as deemed by the
City, on our motor vehicle liability insurance policy.
Minimum Qualifications for Employment:
Firefighter: Applicant shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age and not attending high school; shall possess a valid State of Ohio Drivers License; ability to complete a 36-hour Volunteer Firefighters course within one (1) year of appointment; must be insurable by the City of Wadsworth to operate fire equipment and vehicles; shall pass a aptitude test, physical agility test, psychological interview, interview by department staff and medical evaluation prior to probationary appointment. Successful candidates shall complete a six (6) month probationary period and will be required to maintain a fifty (50%) percent attendance rate for departmental training.
EMT: Applicant shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age and not attending high school; shall possess valid State of Ohio Drivers License; ability to complete Basic Emergency Medical course within one (1) year of appointment; must be insurable by the City of Wadsworth to operate fire equipment and vehicles; shall pass a aptitude test, physical agility test, psychological interview, interview by department staff and medical evaluation prior to probationary appointment. Successful candidates shall complete a six (6) month probationary period and will be required to maintain a fifty (50%) percent attendance rate for departmental training.
Training: The City will provide all required training outlined above.
