Wadsworth receives Local Government Funds from the State of Ohio to support general governmental costs. The amount the City receives is based on the health of the State's General Revenue Fund. Declines in state tax revenues during the recession have led to a declining State General Revenue Fund and consequently to reductions in Local Government Fund distributions:
Amt.
Received Chg from prior
year
2007 $717,974.45 ---
2008 $679,152.45 - 5.4%
2009 $591,941.16 - 12.8%
Est 2010 $584,596.00 - 1.2%
The State Government has discussed completely suspending distribution of these funds to help balance the State budget. While we dodged a bullet for now, the State is still looking for more ways to cut their expenditures. If the State takes these Local Government Funds, this community will have to cut back services, increase fees or taxes or both, for the City, the Library, the County and other governmental activities.
