TAX DEADLINESJanuary 31, 2011 : Last day to pay your 2010 estimated taxes. 90% or more of the total tax liability for 2009 must be paid by this date to avoid a potential penalty of 1.5% per month (after April 15 the penalty is the greater of 1.5% per month or $25 minimum for late filing) and interest of 1.5% per month on the underpaid tax amount. Typically this date is January 31. Per our tax Rules & Regulations, payment is due "on or before the last day of the month." When the last day of January falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is the next business day. April 18, 2011 : Deadline to file Wadsworth City income tax returns. Please note that State law has mandated the April 15 filing deadline. The State mandate voids the April 30 deadline previously used by the City of Wadsworth. The traditional return filing deadline is April 15 of each year, but the IRS has approved April 18, 2011 as the tax filing deadline for 2010 returns and extension requests in observation of Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia. ** Save postage and get a dated receipt by making your City tax payments when you are at City Hall.** CHANGE OF ADDRESS If you move during the year, please report your address change to the City Income Tax Clerk via phone at 330.335.2745 or email at

. Thank you. QUARTERLY ESTIMATED TAX PAYMENTS If your employer does not withhold Wadsworth City Income Tax, CCA can bill you quarterly for estimated tax payments based on your estimated income for the year. This breaks down the amount owed into smaller, more manageable payments instead of having one lump sum to pay by January 31 or when you file your return. You may change your estimates as needed, so long as you meet the 90% paid by January 31 requirement. If you need help to change to your estimate, please call CCA or the City Income Tax Clerk, or just make the change on your estimated tax billing. Quarterly estimated tax bills are issued in July, October and December. Estimate billings can be easily identified as they are printed on white paper with BANDS OF BLUE on the form. Please note: Estimate bills are only generated if estimated tax information was provided on the prior annual tax return. NOTICES Periodically a notice of filing delinquency is sent out. To see a copy of such a notice, click here. You will receive this notice if you are identified as someone who should file but has not, thus "delinquent." If this is an error, please mark the appropriate reason, sign, date and return. Please note in the upper right hand corner below the social security number the example form indicates "DELINQUENT YEAR(S): 03." This is an indication that the missing filing is for tax year 2003. It does not mean that three years are missing. If you have questions, the numbers to call at CCA are on the form, or you may stop in to see the City Income Tax Clerk. Penalty notices are sent out for various reasons. Penalty notices will have BANDS OF PINK on the form. Penalties and interest are assessed for these common reasons: | 1. Withholding payment late | | 2. Annual Return late | | 3. Estimate payments not paid by Jan. 31 or estimates were less than 90% of tax due | | 4. Withholding report received without full or correct payment based on information shown | | 5. Annual Return received without payment | | 6. Tax paid is less than amount due | | 7. Adjustment of tax liability | | 8. Adjustment after review | | 9. Non-payment | | 10. Check returned by bank | PLEASE DON'T IGNORE ANY CCA NOTICES YOU RECEIVE IN THE MAIL.
