BICYCLES, MOTORCYCLES, MINI-BIKES, ATVs, SNOWMOBILES, AND OFF-ROAD VEHICLES
Motorized Bicycles:
Motorized Bicycles may be operated on highways or public or private roads and parking lots under the following conditions:
§ the operator is 14 or 15 years of age and holds a valid probationary motorized bicycle license, or the person is 16 years of age or older and holds either a valid commercial, operator's or motorized bicycle license.
§ an operator under 18 must wear a protective helmet and has a rearview mirror
§ no operator shall carry another person upon the motorized bicycle
§ adhere to all other requirements as outlined in the Wadsworth City Code
Bicycles:
§ no riding on other than a permanent and regular seat nor carrying any other person unless upon a regular seat
§ ride sitting astride, facing forward, one leg on each side
§ not carrying any package, bundle, or article that prevents the driver from keeping at least one hand upon the handlebars
§ no person riding upon any bicycle, coaster, roller skates, sled, or toy vehicle shall attach the same or himself or herself to any vehicle upon a roadway, and no operator shall knowingly permit any person riding upon any bicycle, coaster, roller skates, sled, or toy vehicle to attach the same or himself or herself to any vehicle while it is moving upon a roadway (does not apply to towing a disabled vehicle)
§ every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable obeying all traffic rules applicable to vehicles and exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction.
§ persons riding bicycles or motorcycles upon a roadway shall ride not more than two abreast in a single lane, except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles or motorcycles
§ the bicycle must be equipped with adequate brakes and a bell or other device capable of giving an audible signal for at least 100' (no sirens or whistles allowed)
§ bicycles ridden on roadways and public property from sunset to sunrise or at any other time when there is not sufficient natural light to discern a person at a distance of 1,000' shall be equipped with the following:
o lamp on the front with white light visible from at least 500' to the front
o red reflector, visible from 100' to 600' to the rear, plus lamp with a red light visible from 500' to the rear; colorless reflector on the front
o tires with retro reflective sidewalls or an amber reflector mounted on the spokes of the front wheel and colorless reflector mounted on the spokes of the rear wheel, visible from 600'
Mini-bikes:
§ no operation on city streets or parking lots or school property
Motorcycles:
§ no riding on other than a permanent and regular seat nor carrying any other person unless upon a regular seat
§ ride sitting astride, facing forward, one leg on each side
§ not carrying any package, bundle, or article that prevents the driver from keeping at least one hand upon the handlebars
§ not carrying more persons at one time than the number for which it is designed and equipped, nor shall any motorcycle be operated on a highway when the handlebars or grips are more than 15 inches higher than the seat or saddle for the operator
§ no operating or being a passenger on a snowmobile or motorcycle without using safety glasses or other protective eye device
§ an operator or passenger on a motorcycle under 18 must wear a protective helmet
§ persons riding bicycles or motorcycles upon a roadway shall ride not more than two abreast in a single lane, except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles or motorcycles
ATV/Snowmobiles:
§ no operating or being a passenger on a snowmobile or motorcycle without using safety glasses or other protective eye device
§ no operation on city streets or parking lots or school property, except in certain emergency conditions.
