Don't be Fooled!!!
From time to time organizations that are associated with the fire service make phone calls to local citizens requesting donations. These organizations help with the education and advancement of the fire service. The Telemarketers may offer tickets or other items with your generous donation. We appreciate and thank you very much for helping us out whenever possible. However, there are individuals out there who are trying to make some quick money. They will call people asking for money. They may say it is for the local Fire Department or the local Police. Some will even pose as a firefighter themselves. This is very frustrating to the fire service. We try to stop it as soon as we hear about it and find the individuals responsible.
However, we need your help in this matter. If you receive a phone call from someone asking you to donate to the fire department, be smart. Ask questions about the organization and find out where the funds will be going and whom you are speaking with. If the people on the other end of the line are hesitant be questionable. If you are unsure about any phone calls there is a solution. You may call the local fire department and ask about donations to telemarketers. The members of the department should be aware if there is any telemarketing going on in the area.
Please feel free to call us at 330-335-2849 if you have any questions about telemarketer phone calls.
Press Release about Firefighter’s Charitable Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Wadsworth Fire & Rescue Service has been made aware that an organization called the Firefighter’s Charitable Foundation has been calling Wadsworth City and Township citizen's soliciting money to aid fire victims and area fire departments. Let it be known that this organization is not calling on behalf of the City of Wadsworth Fire and EMS Department.
When the return phone number, given by the caller representing the Firefighter’s Charitable Foundation was called, a professional fundraising service in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was reached.
When questioned, that organization provided information that the Fire Fighter's Charitable Foundation is based in Florida and provided another contact number that is also listed on The Firefighter’s Charitable Foundation website. That website indicates that the foundation headquarters is located in Rhode Island and not Florida. When that contact number was called, another fundraising office in Chicago, Illinois was reached where the Fire Fighter's Charitable Foundation representative who answered the phone indicated 15% of the monies raised supported the "foundation", while 85% of the monies raised pays' the administrative costs. That representative also indicated that no monies are guaranteed to return to New Hampshire.
