Few
communities can boast about having their own television station, but the City
of Wadsworth can. WCTV (Wadsworth Community Television) is a
PEG access television studio owned and operated by The City of Wadsworth. Operating three channels - Public (Channel
15), Educational (Channel 16) and Government (Channel 17) - WCTV’s programming
is currently available on The City of Wadsworth’s Cable and Time Warner Cable. Started in 1983, WCTV is in its 26th year of
creating “A Better Community Through Communication”.
WCTV offers
an abundance of FREE services to all residents of Wadsworth.
You can produce your own television show using camcorders, tripods,
microphones, lights, and editing systems for post production – all provided
free of charge. We also provide the
training needed to operate the production equipment. A fully-equipped studio is also available for
community use, complete with 3 robotic cameras, graphics software, audio
system, and chroma key capabilities.
This year,
community volunteers will produce nearly 2,000 new shows, and provide nearly
20,000 hours of local programming. I’m
sure you’ve enjoyed tuning in to see your neighbors, friends and community
leaders, your children’s or grandchildren’s school plays and concerts, church
services, and the annual Blue Tip Parade.
You can also learn what is going on in the city government by watching
live coverage of City Council, Planning Commission, and Board of Zoning
Appeals, as well as taped delays of Cable Commission, Economic Development, and
Public Safety, Public Service and Public Ways Committee meetings.
If you’re a
sports fan, you are sure to appreciate WCTV’s ongoing commitment to bringing
the community first-rate coverage of high school sports. Giving play by play is
the Voice of the Grizzlies, John Barnard. You are sure to see a professional
quality production that compares to any national sports broadcast.
In addition
to quality local programming, WCTV also provides FREE public service announcements
to non-profit organizations, FREE personal greetings such as birthdays or
anniversaries, and FREE copies of WCTV programs (just bring in a blank
DVD-R). Tune into WCTV for school and
community announcements including school closings, leaf pick-up, emergency
alerts, election results and more. If
you need to know information about our community, WCTV should be the first
place you look.
Have you
ever seen a local commercial while watching your favorite national cable
network? WCTV offers advertising
opportunities to our local businesses and organizations. Commercial insertion is offered on five cable
networks for as little as $3, and Video Vendor Channel 18 is only $1 per day. It’s one of the best advertising deals in
town!
Several
special events are planned for this year, including the annual Volunteer
Appreciation Day, where volunteers enjoy great food, music, contests and prizes
donated by area businesses, organizations, and our cable affiliates. The
highlight of the year is always the presentation of The WCTV Clapper Awards ,
given to the producers of the best programming on WCTV throughout the past
year. The viewers play a big part in choosing the winners, and the awards
ceremony is broadcast on WCTV for the whole community to see. Last year we
awarded over 90 WCTV Clapper Awards to our worthy producers and volunteers.
WCTV is
also very active in the community and its civic organizations. Staff members
volunteer their time and efforts to serve the Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce , Hospice &
Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County (formerly Hospice of Wadsworth-Rittman),
Wadsworth Older Adult Foundation , Leadership Medina County and the Alliance For Community
Media .
As you can
see, WCTV is comprised of many facets, and we provide an invaluable service to
our community. The staff of WCTV is
comprised of
