Omega JV5 Generator Report |
|
In 1995 American Municipal Power - Ohio ( AMP-Ohio ), with the assistance of the Wadsworth Electric Department, installed three Caterpillar diesel generators next to the Wadsworth Wastewater Treatment Plant. These generators were installed to provide backup power for the Belleville Hydroelectric project and can also be used for peak shaving and emergency standby power. Each generator produces 1.8 Megawatts at 4,160 volts which is stepped up to 12,470 volts for connection to WadsworthÂ’s electric system on the Industry Circuit out of the Seville Road Substation. Each unit has a 500 gallon fuel tank which is supplied by an external 10,000 gallon main fuel tank. The generators are installed in special sound attenuating enclosures to minimize the noise produced when the units are running.
The generators are controlled remotely by the AMP-Ohio Dispatch Center located in Columbus, Ohio. The Wadsworth Electric Department monitors the operation of the units using the existing SCADA system and can remove them from service if necessary.
