Bruce Bigley, Part-paid Firefighter Medic

Bruce joined the department in 2003. He spent the first 27 years of service as a member of a neighboring volunteer fire department and held several positions including Chief. Bruce is a graduate of Wadsworth High and is presently employed by Verizon Select Services. Bruce graduated from the Paramedic program at Akron General Medical Center in April 1977 and has been an active Firefighter/ Paramedic since that time. He enjoys helping people and spends his spare time serving the citizens of Wadsworth doing whatever he can for the department

Adam joined the department in 2003. Adam resides in the northern part of the city and is assigned to Station 2. He is currently has a a degree in Criminal Justice. He is trained as a Basic Fire Investigator and hopes to have a career in law enforcement.

Bob joined the department in August of 1993. During the time between 1993 and 1998 he became a Certified Fire Safety Inspector, Level II Firefighter, and a Basic Emergency Medical Technician. In 1999 he decided to further his level of training and became a Paramedic. Bob was hired fulltime in April of 2003 as a Fire Inspector/ Firefighter/ Paramedic. Bob previously worked as a Fire Detection and Suppression installer /service tech for eight years.

Jason was born and raised in Wadsworth.  He was one of the original Explorers and the first Explorer to be hired by the department.  He began on the department in 2002 as a Firefighter / EMT and is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Akron.

Troy Lorton, Part-paid Firefighter/EMT  Intermediate

Member Since 1997

Troy started in March of 1997 and has served 7 years with fire and 6 years with EMS. He currently lives in the northern part of the city and is assigned to Station 2. Troy is a Level II Firefighter, EMT-Basic, Basic Fire Investigator and is the co-lead Advisor for the Wadsworth Fire & EMS Explorers Post.

Heather was born and raised in Orrville and graduated from Kent State University in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in Community Health Education. Heather is a CPR Instructor for the city as well as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician. Joining the fire department was an easy decision for Heather because she comes from a family of firefighters.  She has been a resident of Wadsworth since 2001.

Tim is a 5 year member of the department with 4 years as part-paid and 1 year fulltime. Tim is a resident of Wadsworth and is assigned to Station 2. Tim is married and has two sons and a step-daughter. Tim intends on spending his entire career with the City of Wadsworth Fire and EMS Department.

Tim Phillips, Fulltime Firefighter/ Paramedic

Member Since 1982

Tim joined the department in 1982 as a volunteer EMT and then received his paramedic certification in 1983. In August of 1998 he was one of the first fulltime paramedics hired by the city and in July 2002 obtained the Level II fire certification. Tim has several instructor certifications and teaches at several of the local hospitals in their paramedic programs and the University of Akron. He also instructs at the Medina County Career Center. One of Tim's primary responsibilities is all in-house EMS training in conjunction with Wads.-Rittman Hospital. He just celebrated 32 years of marriage and has 4 children.

Scott Vallant, Fulltime Firefighter / Paramedic

Member Since 1996

Scott joined the fire and EMS department in August of 1993 as a part paid employee. In 1995 Scott was hired as a part-time maintenance worker. Scott has been a very important part of the Fire Prevention Education program for the last ten years. His main focus has been the young children in pre-school to the fourth grade. A lot of the younger citizens refer to him as "Firefighter Scott" In 1998 Scott started the Explorer's program for the Fire Department, which allows students who are 14 and out of the eighth grade to participate in the fire service. On September 4, 2003 Scott became on of the first fulltime firefighter/paramedics to be hired by the city.
